You Are Hereby Called to Serve...
On the afternoon of Thursday, March 6, 2025, Carson received an email indicating that his mission call was ready to be viewed. We were taken off guard because most mission calls were arriving the beginning of the week according to roommates and friends of his. Madi and Bronson made arrangements to head to Provo after the workday and picked Carson up from his dorm room and headed to Jackson's apartment at Glenwood. It was special to have all four siblings together for Carson to open and read his mission call, and was grateful they all made the effort. Doug and I joined by video call from home in Washington and many extended family members joined by zoom.
Carson was called to the Spain Madrid South Mission, preparing to teach in the Spanish language! He was to begin home MTC on Monday, August 4, 2025 and report to the Provo MTC on Wednesday, August 13th. We had exactly 5 months to get him home from freshman year at BYU and ready for the next 2 years!
Another special day came, when Carson was able to go to the Columbia River Washington Temple and receive his endowment. Again, it worked out that all four of his siblings, along with Doug and I could attend alongside with him. We came back a day early from the Thurgood Family Reunion to attend the temple together on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Uncle Evan and Aunt Lacey also returned early to attend with us.
Carson spoke in sacrament meeting on Sunday, August 10th. Unexpectedly, his great-aunt Louise who lived close by in West Richland had passed away and her funeral was on Saturday, August 9th, his Grandma's last family of origin living relative. It was an emotional and spirit-filled couple of days and Carson included Louise in his talk speaking of enduring to the end. He gave a beautiful message filled with his testimony of God's love for him and each of us.
That evening we celebrated at an open house for Carson and two of his good high school friends who were returning from their missions, Tyler Merkley and Caden Nebeker. Carson was so happy to see his friends again after two years apart, even if just for a few hours.
On Tuesday, August 12th, Mom and Carson packed the car and drove to Lehi where we spent the night at Bronson and Delaney's. On Wednesday morning we picked Madi up from her place and drove down to Provo and picked up Jackson. After a lunch together at Chik-fil-a Madi, Jackson, Carson and I drove to the MTC. After grabbing a few last minute pictures at the church across the street, we said our goodbyes and Carson was off! No tears, just joy in everyone's eyes as we sent off baby brother for his mission to teach and love the people of Spain!
