Elder Puzey at zone conference and new missionary training. Hello everyone,  it's already my second week out in the field! Remember my favorite statue from last week? Turns out it's a lot less appealing when you're living it. We had the bikes this week and I am so glad we got the car back tonight. At least it also rained for two days, so it wasn't too hot. To be honest, I actually really enjoyed the rain, but I'm not sure my trainer did. Besides that, it has been a pretty average week. We found George, who is so elect. He is super engaged in the lessons and already solved a lot of Word of Wisdom problems before we met him. The only problem is, he is going to the Philippines in less than a month to pick up his fiance. He could probably be baptized, but it would have to be perfect with church attendances and lessons. Besides George, finding has not been fruitful. We've run out of apartments, so its straight house to house knocking mostly. On Saturday I was able to...

End of Beginning

One of my favorite statues at the mtc, taken at 3:30 in the morning the morning I left. Hello everybody, it has been an absolutely crazy week and a bit so far! The last week at the mtc wasn't too bad, except for having to wake up at 3 tuesday morning and walk to the travel office through what felt like a ghost town. Traveling wasn't too bad, but I didn't know anyone and it was pretty quiet. We were at the airport for many hours, which kind of sucked, but I got to see most of my original district and my uncle there.  After the short flight to St. Louis, we met with President and the APs, then went out in groups and did the work. I was with two elders that said we were going to the hood, and that its the best area in the mission. I didn't believe them, but more on that later. We met with a lot of people for lessons, one of which had no teeth and another that thought sleepung through church was a sign that she should look for another one, but we pulled her back in. We spen...

Elder Puzey Arrives in the Missouri St. Louis Mission--Wait! What?

Elder Puzey Arrives in the Spain Madrid South Mission   Missouri St. Louis Mission  Due to his visa not coming through before his time in the MTC was over, Elder Puzey was temporarily reassigned to the Missouri St. Louis Mission. This was a bit of a hiccup because starting in May of this year, folks need a Real ID to fly domestically. Since Carson would have a passport to fly internationally to Spain, we didn't bother getting him one since he would have to get a new one once he turns 21 anyway. Well...his passport is in the consulate's office in SLC, so Carson had to fly to St. Louis today without the proper identification. As I went to bed last night I was unsettled. Would they let him through security? Would they ask him lots of questions? Give him the third degree? Would Carson be nervous? Worried about what would happen? As I said my prayers I called on the angels. Specifically, ancestors to help. I asked Heavenly Father to soften the hearts of the security agen...

Hello everyone. It's kind of late and this week wasn't too crazy, so this will probably be short. We started SYL outside the classroom this week, or Speak Your Language. It basically means we're speaking Spanish everywhere and at all times. Or at least trying to.  I didn' get my visa this week, so I am for sure going to St. Louis next week. It could be worse though. The workers messed uo bad with my companion and now he has to stay a whole other week at the MTC. All of us are so tired of being here, but he is especially.  For a spiritual thought: In our devotional on Tuesday, the Seventy that spoke to us told us 4 ways to access the power and comfort of Christ without feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. First is to live the doctrine of Christ. Second is to devote time to increasing your understanding of Jesus Christs Atonement. He made a really interesting point that Christ "gave" His life, and it wasn't "taken." It's a small difference in wo...

Wake Me Up When September Ends

Image
Hello everyone, today marks one month since I've been set apart as a missionary, which is pretty crazy to think about. I also have just over a week less here, so they field is getting pretty close. September has started off strong with me getting sick. I'm pretty surprised I was healthy for so long, but the time has come. It's just a sore throat and stuffy nose, so not terrible, but not good either.  Classes are going pretty well and we're learning more and more new things. The only problem is that we're getting more and more tired. This week especially since I've been sick and we moved our beds right next to each other.  We had Elder Lerreal speak to us on Tuesday, another brand new 70. His English wasn't the best, but his message was really good and it was nice to know that there are others struggling to learn a language and spread the gospel in it. He kept repeating " This is not FSY, this is the MTC!" I liked how it reminded me that I really am...
